FA, I strengthen my initiative

I started my day with the song of FA this morning. FA is the first rune of the Armanen Futhork’s eighteen runes. The rune songs had been with me for some time as a handbook to a esoteric knowledge. The songs are written down by hand in a notebook. Recently I had a new desire to pick up the rune song and work with it on a deeper level of self. They are precious because only few people have access to them. Even people that is well acquainted with the runes do not even know about their existence. By the method of use, the runes cannot be taken away for the rune Futhork has been mentally established in my mind eye on an all encompassing visual image that cannot be erased, nor forgotten. An animated reality that stretches beyond the mental images of the thinker to the realm of the knower. At any time a rune can be unlocked to flow into the world of the doer, into action and or manifestation.
FA is the rune of initiative, the start of making changes in life. I am reminding myself that where I am in life is my choice, because I have the means to make changes whenever needed. I touch the certainty that I have the initiative to change course at any time. Not merely a mental or physical ability but a force from my own inner core. The impulse that seeds into a force of will. The will to be.
FA is the fiery image of the Phoenix, the energy to rise from the ashes in full splendor, without attachment to that state of blissful expression of mastery. FA brings understanding of the power of initiation. FA animates the force of Aries, go boldly into the unknown and to accept the consequenct risks as well as to reap the rewards. FA is sparked by the knower, accepted by the thinker and expressed by the doer.

Africa day 2018

Today we cellebrate Africa day. I live in Africa. I associate with Africa. My paternal bloodline has been in Africa since 1752- that is 266 years of being African. Although my original descend is from Denmark, I have no real remaining roots with the country of my origin. When Bertel Pedersen of Randers stepped from the sunken boat, the Cronprincess of Denmark, the journey of being African has begun.

Yet I have only experienced South Africa, Swaziland, Botswana and Lesotho. I have not experienced Africa in its fullest, Africa in its brightest. Even in South Africa with its continuing racial undertones being white makes me still a foreigner. My mindset is considered to be that of a European. There is some truth in that statement for the Afrikaner has isolated itself so successfully that parts of its original european culture remained and never integrated with or absorbed African culture. Yet we no longer associate with any European country, the Afrikaner has developed its own identity. An identity that is by far not homogeneous but rather an identity that is filled with diversity. There are always a group that consider themselves as the only representatives of being Afrikaner and shun the others as fake. Somehow my own discourse of being African on Africa day revolves around my being an Afrikaner rather than African.

The question is how do I stretch my mind to embrace being African. What does it mean to be African? If I am honest it is a question I struggle to answer since it is such a huge question and my sphere of experience so small. I support a stronger Africa, one where all people can live their dreams. I think Africa is the sleeping giant of the world that has not yet awakened. I support African unity despite its diversity. My future and the future of future generations are irrevocably connected to the future of Africa. As South African I would like to see my country playing a leading role in propelling Africa as a continent forward. I hope that I can still make a contribution, even though it might be small to the rise of Africa. Maybe being African is to believe or dream in something bigger than yourself. It is a firm resolve to become more even when conditions are not in your favour. Africa means hope, Africa means potential…. these are the qualities of Africa that is firmly embodied in me….that is what my forefathers saw and what is still carrying me forward along with other Africans for we all have hope, and we all can tap into the potential of Africa ….its resources, rich diversity and cultural heritage.

Energy beyond the physical

Energy is the ability to do work. On a physical level energy is accumulated and refined through the digestive system, repertory system, nervous system and brain. A certain amount of energy is needed to live a quality life that will be consumed before we can begin to experience that energy on a higher level of being.

The psychic body is connected to the physical body but not as most people think the effect of the physical body. The body is the result of the physical body. The psychic body is the pattern or energy mould to which the physical body is shaped and formed. Everything happening in the body is the direct result of what is happening and changing in the psychic body. Mystics has claimed for a long time that illness is not just physical but the result of shifts or changes in the psychic body. Think of the psychic body as the intent projected by the soul onto the physical world. This is the reason why we say that the physical body has a counterpart organ for each that is available in the psychic body and why a person who has a limb amputated can still feel that limb even though it is no longer there.

The physical body is not the cause but the result of the psychic body. The physical body consumes energy to maintain itself and in the process depletes the energy from the psychic body. The food, air and impressions entering the physical body are transformed through the action of the psychic body on the physical body. Natural man lives from an awareness of the physical body while spiritual man lives from a perspective of the spirit moving into the physical body and acting on the physical body.

In order to have an out of body experience as a wilful act the mental energy of intent is needed. A wilful out of body experience that happens ad hoc and almost as a discovery is not wilful. A wilful out of the body experience happens when the person want to have the experience. Three aspects must be coordinated to enable an out of body experience. This means the psychic body must act on the physical body to sustain itself in order to temporarily detach the astral body while remaining conscious. Firstly there must be an establishment of a sense of security and love within the body which emanates from the thymus gland and the heart chakra. So the psychic body must first establish that sense of coherency and stability in being. Secondly a channel must me created for the astral body to leave the physical body through acting on the thyroid gland and throat chakra. This process enables the maintenance of the so called silver cord that keeps a link between the body and the astral body. Lastly the projection of the astral body itself is enabled through the pineal gland and third eye chakra. This is the process that enables us to make the out of body experience purposeful and to maintain a conscious memory of it.

In a nutshell the out of the body experience is a process of security, intent, projection with the three aspects of psychic energy working together on the physical body.  This explains also why it is not always easy for people to astral travel wilfully. If any one of the three is not working in conjunction the possibility of a successful out of the body experience is limited. From an energy perspective the energy for an out of the body experience is accumulated in the thymus/heart chakra, released through the thyroid/throat chakra and then directed by the pineal/third eye chakra. I can reemphasise that it is not the body projecting but the psychic body operating on the physical body that makes it possible. Psychic energy comes from without and collaborate with the physical body through the specific chakra’s and glands. Also note that it is not the psychic body that is experienced during an out of body experience but the astral body. The psychic body maintains the conditions that enables the out of body experience and which determines how much of the experience can be maintained on a conscious level.

Increase your energy through your mind?

What do you do in particular to increase your energy through your mind, rather than through diet, exercise or other physical means? (Asked by Jason of http://metaphysicaldiscourse.wordpress.com/)

Before answering this question on how to increase energy, let’s first say that you cannot increase energy mentally if you do not give attention to the food you take in and the exercise you do. These are fundamental building blocks to the mechanism of having energy in the first place. The mental plane cannot in itself create new energy on the physical plane, what it can do is to refine the energy to be of more use and for a higher order of work to be done.

So let’s first get to the fundamental stages of gaining energy. The first is through the food and drink we consume and the second is the way in which we breathe. Deep breathing does stimulate more energy within the human body. Food strengthens the negative polarity within the cells of the body while the air we breathe and its substances strengthens the positive polarity of cells in the body. When both sides are strengthened each cell, and consequently the whole body, is energised.  The last source of energy, according to Gurdjieff, and often disputed, is the impressions we receive from the environment through our senses. Within Gurdjieff’s schema these impressions are as important as food and breathing.  Three primary steps are then identified for a foundation of energy food, breath and sense perceptions.

These are however not equivalent to each other, each bring its own energy and utility of that energy to the front. The energy provided by food is primarily for the use of physical activities, distributed from the solar plexus. When we sleep and do exercises we work on our ability to better transmute food energy into a finer form of physical energy, stored in the muscles that can be used for physical activity.

Continuing on the continuum of energy the physical energy is refined into an emotional energy through the process of breathing. Breathing, is the positive and brings vital life force into the body. It is this energy that operates on the emotional plane that brings us calm. Merely taking time out to breath properly can be enough to bring back calm and a sense of vitality.  Thus our emotional energy which gives us the drive to apply the physical energy comes from two sources, our breathing and the refinement of the physical energy gained from the food we eat.  This emotional energy is controlled by the Thymus.

Our mental energy, or the energy to will, comes from sense perceptions. Mental energy is the reconciling impulse from the negative energy gained from food and the positive energy gained from breath. Mental energy is the product of the refinement of emotional energy and physical energy as well as sense perceptions of the physical world. Thus at this point objective consciousness begins to play a role and where mind and brain begins to interact.

Before we get into a deeper look into mental energy we need to understand that energy gained through food, breath and perceptions can be wasted. For many people the source of illness is not getting energy from the environment but rather the inability to sustain the energy and not waste it. Physical energy can be lost through bad posture, emotional energy through worry and mental energy through a lack of present moment awareness.  These examples should suffice for now that energy can be lost and if we do not acquire habits to maintain energy we might not be able to increase the energy available for doing work.

Increasing energy through thought starts by the development of concentration for self-observation, where we observe our actions, feelings and thoughts, starting by simply becoming aware of our senses. Without the ability to concentrate our thoughts are scattered in different directions and becomes wasted energy.  That being the first step for mental energy to increase the second is to use our concentration to acquire virtues within rather than focusing our concentration on external conditions and circumstances over which we have no control. Each of the virtues will increase mental energy since it builds up its own inner mental strength to contain the refined energy if applied with consistency. The one virtue that is worthwhile lifting above the others within the context of the theme of energy is enthusiasm, combined with a healthy curiosity.  When we are curious about the world around us and when we are enthusiastic or enthused with interest in the sensory world around us we are bound to have more energy.  We get up in the morning more ready to do things and apply our minds to problems.  So in short the best method of increasing energy on a mental level is through acquiring the skill of concentration and the confidence of developing virtue. This is done through developing continuous constructive thinking patterns.  The mental energy is controlled primarily from the pineal gland in the brain.

It must be noted that physical energy is in primary demand, then emotional energy and then mental energy.  If the physical is depleted it will borrow from the emotional and the emotional will borrow from the mental.  Having reached the mental level of energy management we must also understand that energy goes beyond the mental and to have a full picture we need to move to the psychic body and its role in the management of energy as a whole human being. The physical, emotional and mental all still functions primarily on the sphere of the physical and we have not yet penetrated into the sphere of higher levels of being.  Within that context it is important to remember the role of sleep in an energy management approach. A lack of sleep leads obviously to a drop of energy levels because it does not provide the opportunity for muscles to regenerate, toxins to be removed from the brain etc.  Sleep and deep meditation are the foundation of what leads us to move beyond the physical into the non-physical aspects of energy management in the human organism.
